About Us

Transplantation of human organs has assumed great significance in the medical world in recent times. Management of some diseases previously considered incurable and fatal has become possible as a result of the development of the science of organ transplantation. ROTTO is Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation located within the campus of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati. ROTTO Guwahati is one of the five regional centres setup under NOTTO (National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation) under the ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India. ROTTO Guwahati will render immensely required medical services of organ donation and transplantation to the people of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura.

ACTIVITIES——–

As ROTTO——-

  • Monitoring and surveillance of transplantation activities in the region.
  • Collecting of statistics from SOTTO and maintaining data-bank including transplant, follow up and organ donor registry of the region.
  • To operate various schemes for organ donation, donor health check up  and safeguarding vulnerable population.
  • Organize and conduct training  programmes for region.
  • Creating awareness for deceased organ and tissue donation.
  • Organizing intersectoral meetings and advocacy workshops in the region and state.
  • Dissemination of information.
  • Technical guidelines and support.

As SOTTO——–

  • Maintaining the waiting  list of patients requiring / needing transplants.
  • Facilitating multi organ retrieval from a brain stem death donor, coordination from procurement of organs from a donor till transplantation into a recipient.
  • Matching of recipients with donor & organ allocation as per the designed policy within the state including distribution of organs and tissues.
  • Dissemination of information to concerned hospitals, organizations and individuals.
  • Post-transplant patients & living donors follow-up for assessment of graft rejection, survival rates etc.
  • Collection of data from hospitals.
